Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26. If the family is coming to your place this year, you already know where everyone ends up after dinner: in front of the TV. If that TV is still sitting on a stand with a tangle of cords behind it, or still in the box in the garage, now is the time to get it on the wall. Getting your TV mounted before Thanksgiving in Kansas City takes about one visit and a little planning.
Want it done before the holiday? Book by November 20. Call or text (913) 674-9723 with a photo of the wall and the size of your TV, and I will tell you what the job looks like.
You want the room ready before the guests show up
Most people who call me in the fall are not asking for anything fancy. They want the living room to look finished. No cords hanging down the wall. No TV balanced on a dresser where a nephew can bump it. A screen everybody on the couch can see without craning their necks. Homeowners in Lenexa, Overland Park, Olathe, Shawnee, and Leawood tell me the same thing every year: “I meant to do this in the summer.”
Why waiting until the week of Thanksgiving is risky
A TV mount looks like a one-hour job. Sometimes it is. But a few things can turn a quick install into a second trip, and the week of a holiday is the worst time to find that out.
1. The wall is not what you expected
Drywall over wood studs is the easy case. Brick, stone, and tile fireplaces take different anchors and more time. Some walls have metal studs, and some have a stud right where the outlet needs to go. I ask for a photo first so we plan for the wall you actually have, not the one we hope is there. If the TV is going over a fireplace, my guide to mounting a TV over a fireplace covers heat, height, and why a pull-down MantelMount is worth a look.
2. The wires
A mounted TV with cords hanging below it still looks unfinished. Basic installs include hiding the wires, and there are two main ways to do it: inside the wall or in a paintable cover on the wall. Which one fits depends on what is behind the drywall. My post on hiding TV wires in Kansas City explains in-wall vs. raceway.
3. The bracket
Fixed, tilt, and full-motion brackets each solve a different problem. A TV in a corner or across from an open kitchen usually needs full motion so everyone can see it. A TV mounted a little higher often looks better with some tilt. A standard bracket is included in a basic install, so you do not need to shop for one first. If your room needs full motion, I will tell you before any work starts.
4. The new TV is bigger than the old one
A lot of fall installs start with a TV upgrade. Going from a 55″ to a 75″ changes where the TV should sit on the wall and which bracket can hold it. If you are still deciding on a size, read how to choose the right size TV for your room before you buy.
Need the TV too?
If you have not picked up the new TV yet, check Dan’s Deal Drop. I post new TV deals every Monday and Thursday, priced to save 15% or more against big-store prices plus tax, and delivery is free when I install it. That means one visit: the TV shows up, goes on the wall, and the box leaves with me.
I mount TVs across the Kansas City metro
I am Dan, the owner of SmartHome Connect, based in Lenexa. I have been doing installs for more than 15 years and running SmartHome Connect since 2018. Homeowners in Overland Park, Olathe, Lee’s Summit, Prairie Village, Mission, Merriam, Kansas City, KS, and Kansas City, MO find us through over 190 Google reviews at 4.9 stars.
TV mounting starts at $150, and that includes the bracket and hiding the wires. Fireplaces, brick or stone, Samsung The Frame, and a few other setups can add to that, and I confirm the price on site before any work starts. If you want the full breakdown, see how much TV mounting costs in Kansas City.
The plan is three steps
- Send a photo of the wall, the TV size, and your city.
- Get a firm price before any work starts, including the bracket and how the wires get hidden.
- I mount the TV, hide the wires, connect your devices, and make sure everything works before I leave.
What you get, and what you avoid
Wait too long and the usual problems show up. No open install times the week of the holiday. A TV still in the box when the family walks in. Cords taped to the wall as a quick fix. A screen nobody on the far end of the couch can see.
Book early and you get a clean, finished wall, a TV at the right height, and one less thing on your list when the turkey is in the oven.
Thinking about sound, too?
Thin TVs have thin sound, and a full room of people talking makes it worse. A soundbar mounted under the TV is the simplest fix. My post on soundbar vs. surround sound walks through which makes sense for your room. If you have a Samsung The Frame, read my Frame install guide to see how the outlet and One Connect box are handled.
